Keepsake from Columbus Ohio, USA

inspired by a new ‘blog friend’ Fidel Hart … http://3gtravel.wordpress.com/2010/12/30/where-are-you-from/

If you are from OHIO, you get it…if you know someone from OHIO, you get it.  Otherwise, just let me tell you Ohio State Buckeyes have a lot of spirit!

  1. While growing up there from ages 10-17, then 19-22,I was not much of an Ohio State fan. I spent my childhood years in coastal New Jersey, where basketball, soccer, and pro football were king. It wasn’t until I moved to California that I became an avid Buckeye fan. The Buckeyes were a way of showing pride in where I was from and it connected me to other Ohioans.
Speaking to many Northern and Southern Ohioans who lived on the West Coast and abroad, I discover that many of them also did not grow up Buckeye fans but became fans after moving away. The Buckeyes became “Our Buckeyes” and really connected us.

Now, every where I go, I try to yell out an “O-H” to see if I get a response. It doesn’t fail. There is always one “I-O” around.

    Loving the post!

  2. Thanks Fidel for visiting and the kind comments.

I think you are right that people reflect on where they came from and use it as a connector even when those feelings may have been different when they lived there. It would be interesting to yell out the O-H in a crowded concert or other such format to see how many people would yell back!
